Boracay Island, Philippines – The Charlotte Hornets saw their 20-point lead in the first quarter evaporate and were behind by 12 points in the fourth frame before they mounted a rally that sent the game into overtime and beat the Dallas Mavericks 123-120 on Saturday night (Sunday morning, Philippine time) at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
Terry Rozier hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 41.9 ticks remaining in the overtime period to overcome Luka Doncic’s league-leading 10th triple-double of the season and eke out a hard-fought road victory. He also made the game-tying shot with 19 seconds left in regulation that sent the game into overtime.
Rozier finished with team-high 29 points on a 10-for-15 field goal shooting, including 5-for-8 from deep, to go with 6 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the Hornets to their 15th victory against 23 defeats. Devonte Graham added 27 markers, 2 boards, 13 dimes, 1 steal, and 1 block for Charlotte, who won their second straight.
Doncic had 39 points, 12 rebounds, 10 asssists, and 2 steals, but committed 5 turnovers, including one late in the fourth. He also missed two late treys in regulation that would have sealed the game for Dallas.
Maxi Kleber added career-high 24 points off the bench for the Mavericks, who dropped to a 22-13 win-loss card for 6th place in the Western Conference team standings.
The Mavericks will next host the Chicago Bulls on Monday night (Tuesday morning, Philippine time).
Meanwhile, the Hornets will travel home to face the Indiana Pacers on the same night.
