Boracay Island, Philippines – Kristaps Porzingis and Seth Curry scored 26 points, including 4 three-pointers, each to help the Dallas Mavericks eke out a 120-116 victory over the streaking Bucks 120-116 on Monday night (Tuesday morning, Philippine time) at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dallas, despite not having their best player Luka Doncic in tow due to an ankle sprain, snapped Milwaukee’s 18-game winning streak in the process.
Porzingis also had 12 boards and 5 dimes, while Curry grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 4 assists off the bench. Sophomore guard Jalen Brunson started at point guard and added 13 points and career-high 11 assists for the Mavericks, who improved to 18 wins and 8 losses.
Reigning league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo exploded for game-high 48 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block for Milwaukee, but had little help, as no other starter scored in double figures. Kyle Korver was Antetokounmpo’s best support with 16 markers on 6-for-8 field goal shooting, including 5-for-7 from deep, off the bench.
Milwaukee’s starting point guard Eric Bledsoe didn’t play due to a right fabula avulsion fracture, which will keep him sidelined for about two weeks.
Up next for the Bucks, who dropped to a 24-4 win-loss card, are the LA Lakers in a showdown between the league’s top teams on Thursday night (Friday morning, Philippine time) in Los Angeles, California.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks will travel home to host the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night (Thursday morning, Philippine time).
