NBA -- WARRIORS EDGE BULLS, 100-98

CHICAGO--A young Golden State Warriors team, led by veteran Draymond Green, raided Chicago’s United Center on Friday night (Saturday morning RP time) and stole a gutsy 100-98 win over the Bulls.
Lauri Markkanen was aggressive early and led the Bulls to a five point lead after one quarter of action. But, the Warrior bench went on a 16-5 run to begin the second period. Chicago responded hustle plays from Wendell Carter Jr. and Kris Dunn to claim a one-point halftime lead.
Lavine picked up where Markkanen left off in the second half, scoring 15 quick points within the first six minutes of the third quarter. Coby White also scored the majority of his 14 points during the third quarter, hitting 4-of-5 from 3-point land.
Denzel Valentine added 11 points before being ejected due to two technical fouls, one from tangling with Warriors Omari Spellman and the other for barking with Golden State from the Bulls bench.
The Warriors’ defense in the fourth quarter proved to be the Bulls undoing as Chicago was held to a mere 15 points while completely shutting down Lavine and Markkanen.
Glenn Robinson III led the Warriors with 20 points, including the game-winning dunk. Alec Burks and Eric Paschall helped out with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Lavine finished with a game high 22 points and added six assists and six boards. Markkanen only scored three points in the second half and finished with 20.
At certain points, it felt like the Bulls should have been blowing out the Warriors by 20, especially because they held Golden State’s two active stars, D’Angelo Russell and Draymond Green to a combined 16 points on the night, but Golden State kept it close throughout.
In addition to shutting down Chicago’s two stars in the second half, the Warriors also won the free throw shooting contest, making 15 of 22, while the Bulls shot a season low five free throws, converting only three.
The Bulls fall to 8-15, while the Warriors improve to 5-19 (2 of those wins coming against Chicago).
The Bulls will look to bounce back on Sunday when they visit the Miami Heat while Golden State will look to take momentum back to the Bay as they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night.
