NBA -- Nets win battle of New York

INDIANA -- The Brooklyn Nets won the battle of New York on Sunday, squeezing past the Knicks, 103-101, in front of a thick crowd of 18,770 at the Madison Square Garden.
The Nets won despite shooting just 31 of 77 from the field, a low 40.3 percent clip. Brooklyn, who missed the services of All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, also made just 14 of 38 threes (36.8 percent).
"We don't have some of our better players o the court, but we're still finding a way to win," starting center John Allen told the Associated Press. Allen had a solid 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Spencer Dinwiddie stepped up to the plate in Irving's absence and rifled 30 points while Taurean Prince had 14. The rest of Brooklyn's starters also finished in double figures as Joe Harris 13 and Garrett Temple added 12.
It was a disappointing setback for the Knicks, who shot a high 46.3 percent from the field (37 of 80) and an even higher 51.4 percent from 3-point distance (18 of 35). The Knicks also out-rebounded the Nets 43-35 and issued more assists, 22-18.
Marcus Morries Sr. led the Knicks with 26 points. Julius Randle tallied 15 and eight boards and Wayne Ellington was good for 12. Dennis Smith Jr.pitched in 10 off the bench.
The Nets improved to an 8-8 record while the Knicks plunged to 4-13.
