Tagbilaran City, Philippines – After absorbing their first loss in the season opener versus the Clippers, the Lakers bounced back against the visiting Utah Jazz 95-86 for their first ever victory in the LeBron James–Anthony Davis era.
This is largely due to LeBron’s perfect balance of facilitating the Lakers offense and creating some for himself. He finished with 32 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists for the Lakers, who improved their win-loss record to 1-1.
All Star big man and new acquisition Anthony Davis provided the stone wall defense for the home team, with 5 blocks and 2 steals across his name, to go along with 21 markers, 7 boards, 2 dimes, and perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
On the other side of the fence, the Jazz were led by impressive performance of Donovan Mitchell, who stuffed the stats sheet with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block, including an immaculate 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
However, Mitchell had little support, as Mike Conley was the only other Jazz starter who scored in double figures with his 13 for Utah, who dropped to 1-1 in the win-loss column.
Up next for the Lakers is another home game against the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night (Monday morning Philippine time).
Meanwhile, the Jazz will host the Sacramento Kings tonight (Sunday morning Philippine time).
How they scored:
Jazz 86 – Mitchell 24, Conley 13, Mudiay 12, Niang 10, Gobert 8, O’Neale 8, Green 5, Ingles 2, Bradley 2, Davis 2
