Makati City, Philippines ? In just his 9th professional bout, Justine Darap becomes the World Boxing Foundation Asia Pacific Super Flyweight champion by stopping Robert Awatin during their bout held at the jam-packed Calbayog City Sports Complex, Wednesday night.

Darap, the pride of Calbayog City, Samar used a barrage of shots, culminated by a vicious left hook to the side of the body to finish off veteran journeyman Awatin of Anda, Bohol inside four rounds, to the delight of the raucous hometown fans.

International Referee Romer Embodo reached the count of 10, while the very game Awatin was down on the canvass as a result of that nasty blow.

The 21-year-old Darap improves to 8 wins, including 5 KOs and only one defeat. Awatin, on the other hand, absorbed his 28th loss in 41 professional bouts, with only 11 wins and 2 draws to his name.

The fight card, sanctioned by the World Boxing Foundation, was supervised by professional boxing judge Arnie Najera, also the president of the PBO-CV Professional Boxing Officials of Central Visayas. Judges assigned for the championship bout were Noel Flores, Arnel Pasion and Angelito Piquero.
