Why Pacquiao-Mayweather 2 Could Happen Soon

There are strong indications that the rematch between WBA welterweight super champion Manny Pacquiao and his former conqueror Floyd Mayweather, Jr. could happen as early as the first half of next year, 2020.
This is not only because of the news of Mayweather breaking off from talks for an exhibition fight scheduled in Japan to resume negotiations with Pacquiao camp for a possible rematch.
Or Errol Spence figuring in an unfortunate car crash a few days ago effectively ruling him out as Pacquiao's next opponent after he had beaten Shawn Porter in their recent WBC and IBF welterweight unification.
This is also due to the fact that the window of opportunity for that rematch has now been reduced significantly with Pacquiao on his last fight of his three fight deal signed last year with the Premier Boxing Championship of Al Haymon, Mayweather's promotional partner.
Pacquiao has already fulfilled his part and obligation in the first two fights, disposing off last January Adrien Broner in the defense of the WBA welterweight regular belt he won in mid 2018 over Lucas Matthysse and capturing the WBA super belt by outpointing erstwhile unbeaten Keith Thurman last July.
In case anyone forget, it was this month, October, last year that Manny Pacquiao announced that he had left Bob Arum and Top Rank and signed up with Haymon and Mayweather, Jr.'s Premier Boxing Championship promotions outfit.
It made the news in the USA but it created just minor ripples as around that time HBO had put out words that the revered network was also leaving boxing while Eddie Hearns was aggressively expanding a new platform, the DAZN in the United States. In fact, the biggest news was Hearns signing Canelo Alvarez to a multi million dollar, multi year contract to make him the new boxing superstar through DAZN.
The news of Pacquiao joining the PBC of Mayweather and Haymon was therefore then pooh pooped as a vain attempt by an overstaying greatly diminished former boxing superstar to continue his career and earn big money by latching on an outfit that could give him those at the least physical activity and risk on his part.
Many boxing scribes in the USA, including some no love lost Top Rank paid hacks even pointed to the choice of Broner for his debut opponent after signing with the PBC as evidence of what they were claiming.
Manny made them think again as he gave Broner a thorough trashing from start to finish which was never done by his earlier conquerors that included bigger tough guys as Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter.
Surprised as they were when it was announced later that Thurman would be his next foe, still they stuck to their gun that Pacquiao was being set up in a young lion versus old lion scenario by the PBC--- in which he would gain not much if he won as Thurman was largely inactive, and if he lost would only confirm that he indeed was already washed.
But Manny made them eat their words as he vanquished the younger, bigger and supposedly stronger Thurman in their 'Fight of the Year' candidate title fight last July.

That put Manny back on top tier of the welterweight ratings as well as in the elite list of the current pound for pound best fighters in the world.
Now everyone claiming to be the best welterweight fighter around including Spence before that car accident, and Terrence Crawford wants a piece of Manny who most boxing scribes had earlier dismissed as an overstaying has been.
It may be too late as the true kings, Manny and Floyd may be headed for another confrontation sooner than we think.
Woe likewise to Canelo Alvarez whose bid for superstardom may have to be postponed once again. Barring of course, an earlier worst defeat at the hands of Sergey Kovalev.
