As part of his solemn vow to Se?or Sto. Ni?o, reigning IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire, Jr. will be in town this weekend to join the Cebuanos in celebrating the annual feast of the miraculous patron of Cebu. Unknown to many, Donaire is a devotee of Sto. Ni?o and is in fact dedicating all his fights to the Holy Child.
Revered sports patron Jonathan ?Atan? L. Guardo, Donaire?s benefactor, said the Fil-Am ring icon will ride on the float of Uniherb Philippines during the Sinulog Grand Parade this Sunday together with the effervescent actress Angelica Panganiban.
Uniherb Philippines is one of the country?s leading herbal companies that produces popular food supplements such as Arthro Kontra Arthritis, HeartVit and Kidneycare.
Donaire has a six-fight contract with Uniherb Philippines as official endorser of Arthro.
In his first fight as Arthro image model, Donaire flashed an awesome display of boxing finesse to brutally dismantle Mexican Luis Maldonado in eight rounds in their one-sided match on December 2 last year at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Donaire (19-1, 12KOs) is set to make the second defense of his twin belts against Husein Husein headlining a mammoth card in Dubai under Third Force Promotions of Noli Eala on March 27.
Donaire, who speaks fluent Bisaya having spent his childhood in Bohol and General Santos City, snatched the IBF and IBO flyweight crowns by dethroning the previously unbeaten Australian KO artist Vic ?The Raging Bull? Darchinyan via a stunning fifth round knockout on July 7, 2007 (7/7/7) at the Harbour Yard Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
