OPBF lightweight champion Randy "Komong Bato" Suico is being groomed to challenge WBC lightweight king David Diaz on March 15 as an undercard to the superbout pitting superstar Manny Pacquiao against Juan Manuel Marquez at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Suico's trainer Juanito Ablaca, in an interview, has informed that big-time Cebu promoter Rex 'Wakee' Salud is now negotiating for Suico's inclusion in the event, which is being co-promoted by Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Bob Arum's Top Rank.
The power-punching Suico (27-3, 23 KO's) is ranked highly by the WBC at no. 6 in the lightweight division, making him qualified as a choice challenger for Diaz.
A possible Diaz versus Suico battle will also further ignite the already explosive Philippines versus Mexico theme of the event, where Pacquiao goes for Marquez's WBC superfeatherweight belt in a battle of their country's top fighters.
"Randy will also serve as Pacman's sparring partner," added Ablaca.
Suico had previously lost to Juan Diaz in his first bid for the WBA lightweight title, although he has since racked up three victories in a row following that loss.
At least two other Filipinos--Juanito Rubillar and Ciso Morales--are already set to see action on the March 15 card at the Mandalay Bay.
Rubillar will take on ex-WBC light flyweight champ Omar Nino while Morales takes on a soon-to-be-named opponent.
