QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES- Knockouts do happen in boxing but having all the fighters of one country fall in a single boxing card is a rarity.
So, all four of the Tanzanian boxers th?t faced their Filipino counterparts in the slam-bang ESPN/5 GerryPens Promotions Inc. Dave Penalosa vs Twalib Tuwa boxing card in the packed
Skydome of the SM North EDSA here have fallen, thus the title.
All four knock-outs happened on short routes where Tuwa (21-5-2, 14 KOs),the former Tanzania featherweight champion fell in the 2:15 of the very first round of the scheduled 10-rounder after a powerful hook to his body by the visibly focused Penalosa (14-0, 10 KOs).
The 27 year-old warrior from Cebu who had his father, Dodie Boy
in his corner along with uncle Jonathan, earlier told this writer that he is aiming a regional boxing title next but his uncle Gerry, the fight promoter said that he could arrange a regular world title fight from any of the world boxing bodies.
Referee Danrex Tapdasan motions Dave Penalosa to go to a neutral corner after Penalosa knocks down Twalib Tuwa during their fight Sunday at the SM City Skydome in Quezon City.
That is a tall order however according to the GerryPens Promotions, Inc. CEO, adding, he wants to carve the future of his nephew in partnership with ESPN/5.
No less than TV5 President and CEO Vincent ?Chot? Reyes sat beside Gerry at ringside during the fight. Gerry came along with
his beauteous wife, Goody, father-in-law Rodolfo ?Ditdit? Llido
and sister-in-law, Shandee Llido, an incumbent city councilor from General Santos City.
?If possible we will ask the boxing body, possibly WBO to rank
him. Hopefully by the first quarter of 2019, we could give him (Dave) a break, if possible world (interim) title, if possible,? adding, ?with the help of course of ESPN/5 because without them, im-po-sible,? Gerry said during the pre-fight press conference last Saturday.
Reymart Gaballo finishes off Julias Kirazawe.
Before the main bout, World Boxing Association (WBA) interim bantamweight champion Reymart Gaballo announced his readiness to fight for the regular world title belt after he masterfully handled Julias Kirazawe (30-7-1, 15 KOs) by knocking down the Tanzanian twice after the opening bell sounded.
Kirazawe who climbed the ring by wearing a Lebron James jersey first hit the canvas after receiving powerful head and body combination punches from Gaballo who is scheduled to fight for the regular WBA bantamweight championship against Venezuelan Liborio Solis in New Jersey, U.S.A. on November 30.
The victory extended the fight record of the 22-year old Gensan prize catch to 20-0, 16 KOs. The bout was halted at 2:25 of the first round by international referee Ferdinand Estrella.
Referee Virgilio Garcia signals Marlon Tapales to go to a neutral corner after Tapales sent Goodluck Mrema rolling to the canvas.
Another Tanzanian, Goodluck Mrema got hit with one powerful punch from former world champion, Marlon Tapales, a thunderous right counter, that seemed blinded the eastern African, who earlier this year was also knocked out by another Filipino, Jeo Santisima, in their encounter in Cebu City.
Mrema was motionless for seconds prompting ring physicians to put an oxygen mask on the fallen Tanzanian who got hit in the 2:10 seconds of the first round.
Tapales (31-2-0, 14KOs) told sports broadcaster Carlo Pamintuan that he is now felling more comfortable in moving up in weight as junior featherweight.
The Lanao del Norte born boxer was earlier stripped of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight belt after he was found overweight in his July 2017 bout against Shohorei Omori.
Tapales was penalised further by deduction of his purse even if he knocked out the Japanese in the 11th round of their fight in Osaka, Japan.
Councilor Llido handed down a trophy to the victorious Tapales who is set to join Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar dela Hoya in
the United States.
Carlo Penalosa goes to a neutral corner after knocking down Jemsi Kibazange.
Carlo Cesar Penalosa became the newest World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia South flyweight champion after Jemsi Kibazange (12-3-2, 1 KO) hit the canvass again that halted the fight in the third round.
Kibazange was decked in 2:55 of the third stanza from a punishing head and body combinations prompting referee Silvestre ?Ver? Abainza to stop the bout supposedly set at 12 rounds.
Carlo, 25, who received a trophy from Congressman Guztavo ?Gus? Tambunting (2nd district, Paranaque) already registered 13 wins, 1 loss, 6 KOs.
?Gusto ko lumaban sa mga top 10 na flyweight para makapasok ako sa (I would like to fight the top ten flyweights so that I could be in the) world ranking,? the new WBA Asia South flyweight champ told broadcaster Pamintuan in a ring interview after his fight.
So there you go, not any of the four Tanzanians that fought won, thereby making it, the fall of ?- Tanzania.
