HIS world championship fight in Kuala Lumpur is definitely, irrevocably pushing through, assures the legendary Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao also asks to forget rumors about his challenge to WBA welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse of Argentina falling through due to serious funding issues.
The championship event has been set for July 15.
**
Explains Pacquiao: ?Despite our efforts, there are some individuals who wanted to sabotage the fight. I am saddened by what they?re doing. MP Promotions has already settled financial issues. Last Monday, we sent the initial payment to Golden Boy Promotions and the Matthysse Camp. The remaining amount will be released as scheduled.?
The fight takes place as scheduled at the Axiata Arena, Pacquiao reassures.
Some members of Team Pacquiao have singled out veteran promoter Bob Arum as the culprit behind the rumors besetting the Pacquiao-Matthysse title bout.
**
Pacquiao has refused to issue any harsh statement.
?Just ignore what Bob Arum says,? Pacquiao quips. ?He?s already an old man. Let?s respect him.?
Instead, Pacquuao goes on to say that the KL championship is an effort to make boxing fans happy.
?It will be the most exciting fight in Kuala Lumpur since Muhammad Ali fought Joe Bugner in 1975.?
**
Pacquiao has said the result of the Matthysse fight will decide the remainder of his career.
?I feel this fight will not last the distance,? he says.? May the best man win.?
Oscar de la Hoya, who has promised to report ahead in Kuala Lumpur, has predicted a close and exciting contest.
At the same time, De La Hoya said he foresees the KL championship as the Pacquiao retirement bout.
?The fight could spell the end of Pacquiao?s career,? De La Hoya, who handles Matthysse, said.
