International promoter Sammy Gello-ani has asked Games and Amusement Board (GAB) commissioner Juan Ramon ?Monju? Guanzon to help incoming professional boxers avail free medical examinations being required for those who intend to become professional boxers.

Gello-ani also requested the commissioner from Bacolod city to provide a group or ?built in? insurance for all those applying for professional licenses ? boxers, trainers, referees and judges?to be paid immediately during the application at the GAB office nationwide.

?Circumstances in the Philippines are different than in the US,? Gillo-ani said.?Promoters are compelled to promote in order to increase the ratings of their boxers.?

At the same time, the Cebuano promoter-manager said, ?the Games and Amusement Board should give leverage to the promoters; a free hand to run the promotion without the necessary additional expenses.?

Gello-ani said the GAB should also ?look deeper? why small promotions in the country are very expensive and too taxing on the part of the local promoters.?

He enumerated the tax deductions, including the 3 percent promoter's tax being taken from promoters and requested Guanzon to make representations in the GAB Board ?to protect the interests of everyone involved in professional boxing.?

Guanzon admitted that he needed the inputs provided by the seasoned boxing promoter so he can begin his tasks as new GAB commissioner immediately.

Guanzon, a former city councilor, reported to the GAB office last Nov. 13. He will take his oath on Sunday, Nov. 18 before Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella in Bacolod City.

He replaced fellow Negrense and now Bacolod councilor Alex Paglumotan.
