The much - awaited 5th leg of the Alphaland National Executive Chess Championships organized by the hyperactive Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) shifted into high gear with the historic participation (for the first time in the 48 years of existence of Philippine Executive Chess) of no less than the host Lake Sebu town mayor Antonio Fungan on May 26, 2018 at the picturesque Punta Isla Lake Resort.

As of the latest count, more than 40 Executive players have already confirmed their participation. Mindanao Executives, bound to defend their turf from Metro Manila, Luzon & Visayas invaders, will come from as far as Isabela City in Basilan, Zamboanga City, Cotabato City, Pagadian City, Cagayan de Oro City, Butuan City, Davao City, General Santos City, Koronadal City, Kidapawan City, Tagum City, Panabo City, Tandag City and the neighboring provinces of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Saranggani, North Cotabato & the 5 Davao provinces.

NM Wilfredo Neri, the VP for PECA Visayas & host of the recent Kalibo leg will also compete sans the stress of organizing that hindered his play in Kalibo. A very supportive & strong Metro Manila chess contingent will be led by the 1-2 placers of the recently-concluded Kalibo leg, 7-time RP Executive Grand Prix titleholder Dr. Jenny Mayor of Romblon (PECA Secretary) & PECA President & NCFP Treasurer Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe will vie for the major cash prize that was doubled to make their visit worthwhile.

Other Metro Manila players include Dr. Alfredo Paez (PECA Press Relation Officer), Joselito Cada (PECA Business Manager), Eng'r. Ferdinand Oliveros (PECA Official Photographer), titanic twins Joselito & Emmanuel Asi of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, SSS Executive Dionever Medrano of Butuan City ( with his loving wife Rose), DFA's Larry Dumadag, & Vita Plus IT Manager Edwin Sison of Pangasinan among others. Mindanao will be defended by vastly - improved Paralympic Commisioner James Infiesto (PECA Vice President for Mindanao) from Davao City, Eng'r. Allan Diez ( PECA Screening Committee for Mindanao member)& Atty. Jong Guevarra also from Davao City. Eduard Sumergido , a CPA from Basilan, Ateneo de Manila principal Rey Reyes from Zamboanga City, Tandag City Pichay Chess Club Executive Cyrus Donasco, Butuan City's Larry Serrano of PCSO, sports columnist Lynde Salgados of Cagayan de Oro City, Jezreel Lopez of Pagadian City and many more to be announced next press release.

The Governor of South Cotabato, the Honorable Daisy Avance- Fuentes has confirmed her presence at the opening ceremonies to deliver her welcome message.

The Top 6 of this leg will advance to the Grand Finals scheduled in November with former world champion Gary Kasparov as special guest. Prizes for this leg (which is double than the regular) can be seen in our advertisements.

In line with the South Cotabato mission to discover fresh talents through grassroot development, a 2 categories tournament for Kiddies 12 years old & under & Youths aged 14 & under 12 will be simultaneously played at the scenic venue.

On the next day, May 27, an Open tournament with more than 30 thousand pesos in cash prizes will be staged to cater to all comers. It will be a fitting gauge for the PECA Executives if their games have leveled up to compete against the best that the region can offer. The Chess Festival cum provincial tour will be a treat to the wives or girlfriends of Executives who will "bravely" bring their loved ones to enjoy the beauty of the Province of South Cotabato while their week-end warrior husbands or boyfriends compete. Aside from enjoying the alluring rustic grandeur of Lake Sebu they will have a chance to mingle with supportive parents and coaches who nurture our future champs. Welcome to South Cotabato brothers & sisters in chess. See you on May 26 & 27 (Saturday & Sunday).
