CEBU CITY--Going to deeper waters will be the least of his concerns when dual world flyweight champion Nonito Donaire defends his title on December 1 against Mexican Luis Maldonado in Connecticut.
Yesterday, the 24-year-old Donaire cruised through eight rounds of sparring and came away ready for some more before punishing the heavy bags and doing other exercises at the famed ALA Gym.
Donaire mixed it up for four rounds against Louie Bantigue, before getting in another four rounds against RP flyweight champ Rocky Fuentes.
"It was good. It's already there," said Donaire's father and trainer Nonito Sr when asked about his son's stamina after the eight-round sparring session.
Donaire is set to leave for San Francisco on November 24, stay the weekend in San Leandro, California, before flying to Connecticut about four days before the weigh-in.
"We're not at all worried with the jet lag. He's never had any problems with jet lag in the past," said the elder Donaire.
The Donaire-Maldonado showdown, which will be aired on national television, is just one of the three Showtime 12-rounders on the card.
The main event will feature former light-heavyweight champ Antonio Tarver, while the other bout features Vernon Forrest against Michele Piccirillo for the WBC light middleweight title.
