Touched by reports that his mother died before his scheduled defense of the national crown in Binangonan, Rizal last October 28, ABS-CBN?s most popular morning talk show in Iloilo City , ?Sikat ka Ilonggo?, will feature the life of RP minimumweight ruler Denver Cuello.

This was confirmed by the local TV station?s director for public affairs program Gemma Villanueva who will send a team to Brgy. Tuy-an, Cabatuan, Iloilo where Cuello lives and where the body of his mother, Irene, now lies in state.

Villanueva said their station has always been interested to feature stories involving Ilonggos that have carved a niche in sports, culture, music, arts, and other endeavors with national and international impact.

Among the famous Ilonggo athletes featured by ?Sikat ka Ilonggo? and who became famous in Western Visayas thereafter were world wushu champion and Asian Games gold medalist Rene Catalan and the martial arts artists from Tinagan Martial Arts.

Cuello, 19, who retained his title with a third-round technical draw with Cebu City?s Rollen del Castillo in the main event of the ?Matira ang Matibay? card assembled by the Aljoe Jaro International Promotion in cooperation with the Thunderbird Resort and Casino, Rizal, is expected to arrive in his hometown Nov. 2.

?Ma attend ako sa lubong ni nanay kag bisitahan ko ang akon mga utod (I will attend in the burial of my mother and visit my brothers and sisters),? quipped the diminutive champion who left Iloilo and joined the Jaro Boxing Stable when he was only 16.

Cuello said his decision to leave Iloilo was fuelled by the cancellation of amateur boxing in the Western Visayas region following the death of Reynan Padrones, his teammate in amateur boxing who died of brain injuries after a boxing match in the integrated meet held at the Iloilo Sports Complex in 2004.
