CEBU CITY -- World flyweight champion Nonito Donaire is set to spar again today at the famed ALA Gym as he steps up his training for his December 1 defense against mandatory challenger Luis Maldonado at the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA.

Donaire had sparred against RP flyweight champ Rocky Fuentes and ranked fighter Louie Bantigue last week also at the ALA Gym, although the IBF and IBO flyweight champion believes that he would always prefer quality over the quantity of sparring.

Donaire decided to train at the ALA Gym owing to its topnotch facilities and the good number of possible sparmates he can spar with who can give him good quality sparring.

"In the US, there is a limited supply of sparmates especially for guys my size. So the ALA Gym is just the perfect place for me. Me and my dad have decided we will always be training here in Cebu for future fights," said the 24-year-old Donaire.

This week, ALA Gym chief trainer Edito Villamor has lined up more boxers who can spar with the highly-talented Donaire, who looked impressive in his first sparring session last week.

On Sunday, Donaire is set to fly to Manila with his dad to serve as commentator to the Juan Manuel Marquez-Rocky Juarez WBC superfeatherweight showdown. The winner of that fight is aching for a possible fight with Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao.

Donaire was also a ringside commentator to ABS-CBN's newest boxing show "Idolo" which held its first elimination bouts last Saturday. Donaire was joined by Z "The Dream" Gorres and an ABS-CBN talent in the panel.
