CHICAGO -- Harry Tanamor, who was itching for action all week, finally got the action he was looking for when he scored a 24-5 points win over Nasir Mohammed of Whales in their preliminary 48 kg light flyweight bout. Both Tanamor and Mohammed drew byes in the first round. The bout brings Tanamor closer to his quest for a birth at Beijing as he draws Dostiev Sherali of Tajikistan in his second preliminary fight.
Tanamor a former Philippine Olympian won the fight using an effective counterpunching style. The southpaw military sergeant of Zamboanga was relatively unscathed after the fight. Tanamor stated afterwards that he fought Mohammed in a European tournament last year but lost badly on the scorecards, blaming biased judging. Tanamor also stated that after he built a sizeable lead, he became less aggressive and took less risk which may have also cost him the fight. Tanamor avenged his loss today and has taken his first step towards a World Championship Title and a berth to Beijing, China.
