MALOLOS, Bulacan ? Senator Manny Pacquiao challenged aspiring athletes competing in the regional sports event here to strive for excellence and continue the pursuit of their most coveted dream ? to win a gold medal not just in regional but including national and international sports competitions.
Sen. Pacquiao was the guest speaker during the opening ceremonies of Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CaVRAA) in Tuguegarao City and Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) held here over the weekend.
?Nag-uumapaw ang aking pasasalamat habang tinitingnan ko kayo. Naalala ko tuloy ang aking nakaraan,? Sen. Pacquiao said.
Sen. Pacquiao remembered his amateur days in early 90?s when he was representing Digos City Boxing Team.
?Kung nakita n?yo ako noong teenager pa lamang ako, siguradong hindi n?yo maisip na ako ay magiging world boxing champion at senador. Pero walang imposible sa Panginoon,? Sen. Pacquiao told the athletes.
The senator from Mindanao reminded the athletes of some important values needed in order to succeed.
These values, he said, include discipline, focus, resilience and humility.
The boxer-lawmaker explained that discipline is needed to achieve consistency in training and in pursuing healthy mind and body.
The fighting senator expounded that focus is important to put on an excellent performance while resilience is necessary to overcome defeat and failures along the way.
He challenged the athletes to remain humble in the midst of victory.
?Keep your feet on the ground. We can be victorious but most of the time we can hardly keep our feet on the ground,? Sen. Pacquiao said.
Sen. Pacquiao stressed poverty is not a stumbling block to success as what he had proven in his own life.
He encouraged all participating athletes to compete armed with the right perspective.
?Beat your own personal records, rise above your limitations, learn from your mistakes, rise from your failures, celebrate your success, remain humble in victory and, above all, glorify God in everything that you do,? Sen. Pacquiao concluded.
