Philippine bantamweight champion Michael Domingo retained his title last night with an emphatic fifth-round knockout over former WBC International champion Roger Galicia in Calape, Bohol.
The end came at the 2:02 mark of the round, allowing Domingo to retain his title for the fifth time since winning it on July 30, 2005 with a hard-earned technical decision over tough-as-nails Joel Bauya in Manila.
Domingo knocked down Galicia in the fifth, and after the latter survived the count, the reigning champion again rained punches on the still groggy challenger, prompting the referee to stop the fight.
Domingo is also coming off the biggest win of his career with a lop-sided unanimous decision over previously undefeated Miguel Roman last August 11 at the World Cup in Sacramento, California.
In the chief support, RP junior welter champ Mark Jason Melligen prevailed on a unanimous decision over Dondon Lapuz in a non-title tenner.
Local boy Ricky Sismundo proved too much with a first-round technical knockout over Janrey Verano, while Romeo Jakosalem and Jun Intor carved out victories over Lotlot Gaviola and Rico Genon, respectively.
Other results: Joseph Omanz decisioned Richard Agagad; Roel Golez decisioned Jestoni Borres; and William Jorge defeated James Bacon by split decision.
