CEBU CITY -- Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to arrive here today following his easy unanimous decision win over Marco Antonio Barrera last week at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao touches down at around 8:30AM on board a plane owned by Governor Luis 'Chavit' Singson, said Pacquiao's business associate Rex 'Wakee' Salud, owner of the RWS Gym which is credited for Pacquiao's superb conditioning going into the Barrera rematch.
Cebu City Councilor Jack Jakosalem, who is spearheading the preparations for Pacquiao's arrival upon instructions from Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena, also informed yesterday that from the airport, Pacquiao and his entourage will take part in a motorcade with open top vehicle with full police motorcycle formation escort straight to the Sto Nino Basilica where Pacquiao is expected to pay his respect and pray.
After prayer, fans are allowed to hobnob with the most popular fighter in the world today.
Shortly after, Pacquiao will then proceed to the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel for an 11AM press conference with Cebu and Manila media.
"Manny is the best thing that has happened to our country in recent history. And he is even closer to the hearts of the Cebuanos now because he chose Cebu City as his training ground instead of the US, Manila or even his home of General Santos City," said Cebu City Councilor Jack Jakosalem.
Pacquiao's afternoon schedule starts at 1:30PM where a motorcade takes place for him through the historic Colon Street and major streets downtown before proceeding to the University of San Carlos Gym where he will meet fans again.
Then the city government will host a thanksgiving dinner party at Parklane Hotel at 6PM onwards where Pacquiao will meet with government officials, barangay captains, businessmen, the Cebu media and Pacquiao's Cebu friends.
Also expected to grace the thanksgiving party is Cebu's boxing godfather Antonio L. Aldeguer, who will be accompanied by his boxers led by WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes, Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista, AJ Banal and Z Gorres.
"The least we can do is welcome Pacquiao in a way he truly deserves. As a living and real hero of the Filipino people," Jakosalem added.
