Two promising bets from the Everlasting Gym of Baguio City got their share of the WBO regional titles at stake when they defeated their respective Indonesian opponents last Saturday night at the famed Baguio Convention Center on the eve prior to Manny Pacquiao?s impressive victory against the retiring Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera.
Amor Tino, a native of Benguet, displayed his most impressive performance so far when he demolished Michel ?Speed? Sugarlaki, Indonesia?s Jr. Lightweight No. 3 contender, in four rounds in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds. After repeatedly bombarding the Indonesian with his huge body punching while occasionally mixing the same with some big shots to the head, Tino finally dropped the game Sugarlaki in the fourth round with a combination to the head and body. The Indonesian was able to withstand Tino?s assault for some time but this time, he found it more than enough and was unable to beat the count, even spitting his mouthpiece while he was down on the floor. With the win, Tino earned the title of Interim Junior WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight champion.
Another Benguet native in Ryan Maliteg showed vast improvement and displayed fine technique to give Sam Burdan a boxing lesson for 10 rounds earning him the title of Interim WBO Junior Asia Pacific Flyweight Champion. Maliteg, using excellent lateral movement, was hitting Burdan with well-timed hooks to the body and to the head while effectively evading Burdan?s charges with excellent head movement leading to a unanimous decision victory with scores of 98-92, 98-92, and 100-90.
For the results of the other bouts:
Dennis Juntillano, now fighting under the Everlasting Stable of Baguio City, defeated Wendel Cajoles via a 10-round unanimous decision in their 10-round junior-flyweight fight;
Tommy Terrado, fighting under the same stable, scored a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Steve Dimaiisip in their minimum weight bout;
Mike Tumbaga of the Brico Santig Stable scored a hairline split decision victory over Jake Sevillano of of the Everlasting Stable in their 8-round super-featherweight fight;
Jun Galamiton of the Tiger Gym Mandaluyong won his 6-round flyweight bout against Jun-Jun Bolcio of Everlasting Stable via a unanimous decision; and
