PROMOTER PLANS AROY-KWAYIBA REMATCH

South African promoter Branco Milenkovic, unimpressed by his countryman's victory, has planned on staging a rematch between WBC International minimumweight champion Zukisani Kwayiba and Filipino Alex Aroy after the controversial ending of their bout at the Carousel last Saturday.
Kwayiba was declared the winner over the Filipino when the fight was abandoned in the seventh round because of a power failure at the Hammanskraal venue near Pretoria.
Two of the judges had the local boy winning on their scorecard, while the third judge saw it a draw when the fight was stopped due to the power interrruption.
Milenkovic said he would coordinate with the WBC and check if the rematch could be done.
"Even if the WBC does not enforce the rematch I will consider staging it because of the manner in which the bout ended," Milenkovic told Superboxing.
Milenkovic said Kwayiba's performance was so lackluster that "he looked terrible and did not justify his ranking (fifth) by the WBC.
"He looked like someone who is rated 35th; he will have to do better than that."
Mapetla Mzamo, who trains Kwayiba, blamed the time difference, as if the Filipino fighter was the one fighting in his hometown.
"We arrived in Johannesburg from East London on Thursday and the fight was on Friday," Mzamo said.
Ron Jackson of Fightnews, in his report that also appeared on Superboxing, said that the lights went out at the start of the seventh round and the fight went to the official scorecards as per WBC rules.
Judges Tony Nyangiwe and Sylvia Mokaile submitted scores of 68-66 for Kwayiba. Joseph Chaane?s 67-67 was hailed as a much better reflection of the action.
Both fighters reportedly missed with wild, swinging punches in the first two rounds.
In the third and fourth rounds Aroy (47.46 kg), who had battled to make the weight, picked up the pace to score with some good shots to the body. At that stage, Kwayiba (47.16 kg) appeared to lose interest in the fight.
The South African came back in the fifth round, scoring with some straight rights to the head, and again at the end of the sixth.
With the Filipino clearly tiring, there was very little in it and the bout was developing into an interesting contest.
The 21-year-old Kwayiba takes his record to 11-0; 6 and Aroy drops to 12-5-1nc; 6.
