Filipino ring icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao will grace the opening ceremony of the 2007 Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference at 4 pm this Sunday at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
"It's an honor for me to be invited as their guest in the opening. I will be there for sure because my team will be playing," said Pacquiao, whose MP Warriors-GenSan will go up against host Cebu Landmaster-Mandaue of Mayor Jonas Cortes and realtor Joe Soberano in the lone match at 4:30 pm kicking off the league's season-ending tilt.
Pacquiao will spearhead the tossing of the ceremonial ball together with Mayor Cortes, and MVBA founder and Cebu City Councilor Raul "Yayoy" D. Alcoseba.
Pacquiao said he won't be playing for his team with due respect to his celebrated American trainer Freddie Roach, who asked him not to play hoops anymore to avoid injury as he toughens up for his October 6 rematch with Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera at the Mandalay Bay Hotel Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
