Reigning IBF/IBO and Ring Magazine flyweight king Nonito Donaire Jr has returned to serious training in anticipation of a possible title defense in December.

In a long-distance conversation with this writer, Donaire said he started training yesterday at a gym near his home in San Leandro, California, and added that he cannot afford to keep himself too long away from the gym.

"I need to have enough time in the gym before I fight," said the amiable world champion.

Donaire's father, Nonito Sr., said that his son's manager Cameron Dunkin will soon have the name of the next opponent, although he maintained his son would have love to mix it up with WBC flyweight champ Daisuke Naito or even WBA ruler Takefumi Sakata.

"We are even willing to travel to Japan to fight any of these champions to unify the belt," said the elder Donaire.

Another son, Glenn, has moved down to the 108-lb division and is also looking forward to a bout in October.

The Donaires are expected to be in Las Vegas in early October to show support to compatriot and pound-for-pound icon Manny Pacquiao in his rematch with Mexican hero Marco Antonio Barrera.
