Some 6,000 scouts, scouters and staff gathered together to train senior scouts, the secondary level of the boy scouts, at Camp Danao, Malapoc Norte, Maasin City, Southern Leyte from September 25 - 30, 2016. They came from all over the country and assembled at the Maasin City Forest Park.

Scouts from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao traveled either by land, sea or air to arrive at our city which was their home for almost a week. They came here to experience hardships and challenges away from their comfort zones.

They pitched and slept in tents, lined up to fetch water and use the bathrooms and rest rooms, endured the heat and the rain, rode in dumptrucks and staketrucks, and woke up early and slept early together with troop and patrol mates.

The boys, and some girls, learned about land, air and sea scouting. They hurdled obstacle courses, learned boating and swimming, undergone rescue and lifesaving training, studied about illegal drugs, solar energy, sports, radio communications, team building, basic scouting skills, among others.

Activities also included campfires, talent contests, jam concert, youth forum, Eagle Scouts conclave and national court of honor. For the adult leaders it was an opportune time for reunions especially among woodbadge holders or graduates of advance training courses.

Being the Camp Chief, I oversaw the different events being conducted. I also slept in the camp inside my tent to feel what the scouts had felt. We helped the senior scouts gained outdoor experiences. Except for some minor problems, the 7th National Scouts Venture Camp was a big success. I thanked all those who in one way or another contributed to the successful national scouting affair.
