Life is indeed kind for Czar Amonsot.
After being advised by doctors to rest for six months up to one year to completely heal his head injury, Amonsot immediately find solace in the arms of Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim who gave the Boholano boxing icon a job at the city hall.
Lim told The Freeman he has formally appointed Amonsot as part of his civil security unit as his own way of helping Amonsot cope with the daily needs of his family while he is temporarily out of competitive boxing.
"I'm designating Amonsot as part of my civil security. I've not made such appointment for the past three years. I'm doing this so he will have an income while he's temporarily out of boxing," said Lim, explaining that Amonsot's primary duty is to serve as his personal aide.
Regarding Amonsot's condition, Lim said they opted to follow the recommendation of Dr. Debra Nelson that Amonsot should rest for a year so his injury would perfectly heal.
Dr. Nelson was Amonsot's attending neurologist at the Valley Medical Center in Las Vegas where he was confined for four days after doctors suspected a bleed in his brain following his brutal 12-round war against Australian champion Michael Katsidis last July 22.
Amonsot was given a clean bill of health by Dr. Nelson after three CT scans and an MRI test showed the tiny blood clot did not penetrate the brain area. Instead, it had reduced in size and appeared to be in the healing process.
Amonsot will have a complete rest in the next three months. Afterwhich, he will undergo another MRI test wherein the result will be submitted to the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
Dr. Nelson will also make a separate report to the NSAC regarding the health status of Amonsot. It will be among the basis of NSAC whether or not to suspend Amonsot's license to fight in Nevada.
Lim is optimistic that Amonsot will be cleared to fight again and when that time comes, they will make it sure that their hometown pride will be loaded with all the necessary armaments to become a world champion.
"Amonsot is very young and I am confident he can be a world champion someday," said Lim, who's a father figure to Amonsot and some ALA Boxing Gym fighters.
Amonsot, for his part, is very elated on Lim's kind gesture.
"Siyempre lipay kaayo ko ug dako akong pasalamat ni Mayor Lim. Dili lamang aron malingaw ko, duna pa koy kita samtang dili pa ko maka-away (Of course I'm vey happy and I thank Mayor Lim for that. Not only that I have something to keep busy with, I will also have an income while I'm not yet allowed to fight)," said Amonsot.
Deep in his heart, Amonsot longs to again see action in the squared arena but only time can tell what future holds for the 21-year-old braveheart.
