ILOILO CITY – Fledgling boxing promoter Porferio “Perry” Clavel formalized his entry in fight business when he met with representatives here of the Para?aque based-Johnny Elorde International in a luncheon meeting at the Esca’s Garden Restaurant here Friday, July 27.

Clavel, regional director of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB), sat down with Winners Promotion owner Erwin Chiongson and Marlon Lumacad, both Iloilo partners of Elorde, for three hours and discussed the possibility of linking together and organize a team that would “establish and operate” boxing promotions here and managing outfit.

Such team will be called as The Group. A member of the group, balikbayan Ike Buensuceso, failed to attend the meeting as he was in Cebu.

The outfit, Lumacad explained, will serve as “major hub of boxing development for professional transactions in Western Visayas.”

If the group has been formalized, they proposed to undergo the following activities:

1. Development of boxing fight talent, referee and trainor skills for amateur and professional bouts, including fight management, training, general logistics, housing education, boxing and post-boxing career development;

2. Promotion, administration and promulgation of boxing fights and other related events intrinsically, or in coordination with the various governing or regulating agencies and entities both local and international’

3. General enhancement of the local sports environment, including media and sponsor linkages, network building, and

4. Entering into contract and memorandum of understanding to ensure the implementation of the above.

He added that The Group will fall under the umbrella of Winner Promotions which plans to secure professional licenses for promotion and managing with the Games and Amusement Board (GAB).

Under the set-up, they proposed to appoint an operation manager, a chief trainor, a business manager, treasurer and an external auditor to oversee its operations and transactions.
