Former world champion Gerry Penalosa is looking extremely sharp in sparring at the Wild Card Gym even as renowned trainer Freddie Roach has allowed his assistants to do bigger role apparently due to the number of Filipino fighters training at the gym who all need quality sessions.

Penalosa did several rounds yesterday against Ricky Quiles, Jesus Adame and an unidentified Mexican.

Young prospect AJ Banal also sparred with Diosdado Gabi and Michael Domingo.

The group then were treated to lunch by Dr Ed De la Vega at a nearby Thai Restaurant.

"Madami ilag sa tropang RP team sa Wildcard. Halos lahat napapatingin sa ensayo ng tropa," said a source. Si Freddie Roach nga sumusuko, sa dami nyang boksingero na hinahanda," the source added, noting that Eric Brown and Ola Afolabi have been of great help to the master tactician.

Roach, however, is expected to just slow down for a few days, after which he is expected to be in his element for the 'World Cup' where the Filipino fighters face Mexican warriors in Sacramento, California.
