
54th OPBF Convention set in Bacolod; WBC prexy Sulaiman as guest

BACOLOD CITY - Hundreds boxing officials from across the country, the Asia and the Pacific region are expected to converge in Bacolod City for the staging of the 54th Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Convention on March 30 to April 1 at the L? Fisher Hotel.
Delegation arrivals are expected March 30 wherein licensing of OPBF members start alongside issuance of IDs, and distribution of kits.
The convention will commence at around 10AM with Juan Ramon Guanzon, Games and Amusements Board Chairman and OPBF President, and World Boxing Council prexy Mauricio Sulaiman.
During the event, new OPBF-member countries and representatives will be recognized. Active members of the organization will also be presented.
In the afternoon of the same day, the OPBF executive meeting will take place and talk about the revision of some provisions of the OPBF rules and regulations.
On Day-2, convention continues with GAB Commissioner lawyer Mohammad Aquil Tamano giving an opening message followed by the OPBF referees and judges? conference.
Among the topics to be taken up are: (a) judging principles in boxing with scientific basis, (b) refereeing principles with emphasis on safety, (c) OPBF rules on ring officials, and (d) application and implementation of interim championship.
Resource speakers are Bruce McTavish and Hubert Minn.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon of Day-2, the revised OPBF rules and regulations will be presented by OPBF president Guanzon and to be discussed in the executive meeting.
On the final day, approval of the revised OPBF rules and regulations will be done while seminar on medical aspect will also be conducted which Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) and drug testing procedures will be undertaken.
This will be spearheaded by Dr. Paul Wallace alongside fellow panelists Dr. Radentor Viernes and Dr. Jose Rolando Rivera.
The 3-day hostilities end with the distribution of certificates of attendance following the closing message from GAB Commissioner Matthew Gaston.
