Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will inaugurate the newly-refurbished, cutting-edge Rex 'Wakee' Salud Gym in Labangon in October after his next fight against Marco Antonio Barrera at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
The RWS Gym, which is now 95 percent finished, is a major turnaround from the old gym, said promoter Rex 'Wakee' Salud, who spent a king's ransom in making sure he has the best facilities available for his fighters.
"Pacquiao will come down straight from his fight with Marco Antonio Barrera to inaugurate this gym. This is really a labor of love," said Salud, who indicated that the lighting alone is being provided by Philips courtesy of Jay San Pedro.
Pacquiao takes on Barrera in a 12-round brawl on October 6, after which he will proceed to Cebu for the gym inauguration.
The gym is equipped with two impressive boxing rings, courtesy of Solar Sports and MP Promotions of Manny Pacquiao whose logos adorn each of the rings.
"Before there was only one ring, but we really need two rings to accomodate the boxers on sparring days," added Salud.
Also impressive are the equipment being used, exclusively provided by Winning, the most expensive brand made in Japan courtesy of Toshiaki Kobayashi, the man credited for OPBF Rev Santillan's recent win against the Japanese champion.
The gym is also complemented by a state-of-the-art offices, which will be finished soon and will house the personnel of the RWS Stable where matchmakers and trainers can discuss the latest developments in boxing.
Another positive addition to the RWS are the newly-built bathrooms and shower areas for the boxers, which resemble like hotel shower rooms in cleanliness and quality of materials used.
"This is something we can truly be proud of. Gone are the days of makeshift gyms. As the world of boxing evolves, so does our gym," Salud said proudly.
OPBF flyweight champ Jojo Bardon poses at the newly-refurbished RWS Gym.
The restrooms and shower areas are world-class.
