Unheralded but vastly-improved ALA Boy Along Denoy's victory over WBO no. 1 light-flyweight Kaichon Sor Vorapin yesterday in Thailand should move him into the top rungs of the WBO rankings.

WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo, who is credited for the meteoric rise of the regional body in the Asian region, is expected to recommend Denoy to be placed within the top five if not totally replace Vorapin as the top contender to reigning champion Hugo Cazarez.

Denoy showed true heart and grit in picking himself up from a second-round knockdown and scoring two knockdowns against Vorapin in the fourth round.

The fight had to be stopped after Denoy again scored two knockdowns in the fifth.

With the win, the Bohol-raised, Cebu-based Denoy improves to 15-6-1, 8 KO's, and can now look forward to a possible crack at the WBO crown.
