After Florante Condes and Nonito Donaire, it will be Filipino Czar Amonsot's turn to win a world title for the country when he faces the undefeated WBA interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis on July 21 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
The bout will be aired live by television giant ABS-CBN, along with the main event featuring Bernard Hopkins against Winky Wright for the undisputed light-heavyweight championship of the world.
Amonsot's Filipino trainer Edito Villamor, who in tandem with the legendary Freddie Roach has helped whipped Amonsot into a mean fighting machine, has informed yesterday that Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions has dangled big plans for the Filipino if he comes out victorious against Katsidis.
GBP vice-president and international matchmaker Eric Gomez informed Amonsot and Villamor, in a recent visit to the GBP offices in Los Angeles, that big plans are being readied if Amonsor gets past Katsidis.
Amonsot (18-2-1, 10 KO's), who holds the WBO Asia-Pacific title, will challenge the power-punching Katsidis (22-0, 20 KO's) in a 12-round battle for the WBA interim lightweight title.
Last Tuesday, Amonsot paid a courtesy call on GBP CEO Richard Schaefer and Gomez along with the fighters seeing action on the August 11 'World Cup' of boxing led by Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista and Z 'The Dream' Gorres.
"Czar's conditioning has been very good, and in his last sparring session last Friday, he looked sharp and impressive. There is no weigh problem whatsoever. He has already logged more than 100 rounds of sparring including the one we did in the Philippines," informed Villamor in an interview yesterday.

Expected to cheer for Amonsot at ringside on fight night are his manager Michael Aldeguer, top Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani, and Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim, who has been invited by De la Hoya to be at special ringside for the fight.
Referee for the Katsidis-Amonsot rumble is Las Vegas-based Jay Nady, while judges for the bout are Ruben Garcia, Patricia Morse Jarman, and C.J. Ross.
