DE LA HOYA INVITES MAYOR DAN NERI LIM TO BOXING 'WORLD CUP'

Boxing great Oscar De la Hoya, who is promoting the August 11 'World Cup' of Boxing in Sacramento, California, has sent an special invitation to Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim to be at special ringside for the event.

After compiling an impressive 5-1 record against fighters from Thailand in Golden Boy Promotions? inaugural Boxing World Cup in October of 2005, the warriors of Mexico are back to defend their title against the Philippines? finest in the 2007 World Cup, the sport?s only international competition.

"It gives me great pleasure to write this letter to you," said De la Hoya in his letter to Lim. "As an influential figure for ALA Boxing, I would like to personally commend you in your extraordinary career. You have served our beautiful sport of boxing with dedication and passion. I would like to have you present ringside, as my personal guest. Golden Boy Promotions will handle all accomodations," De la Hoya stated.

Mayor Dan Neri Lim is credited for his all-out support for the ALA Boys and Tagbilaran's rise as a boxing hotbed in the country.

Lim is a major benefactor and an influential figure for both Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista and Czar Amonsot who both live in Tagbilaran City. Amonsot will challenge WBA interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis on July 21 at the Mandalay Bay.

The historic World Cup this year, presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with SGG Sports Promotions, ALA Gym and international matchmaker Sampson 'Picasso' Lewkowicz, will take place at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California. HBO Boxing After Dark will televise the two co-featured world championship fights live beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET with a tape delayed airing on the West Coast at 10:00 p.m. PT.
