ABU DHABI ? World eight-division boxing champion and Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao donated US$50,000 to a cancer charity organization during his visit here over the weekend.

Nora J. Al-Suwaidi, director general of the Cancer Patient Care Society (CPCS) here, personally received the check from the Filipino boxing legend, who came here together with his wife, Sarangani Vice Governor Jinkee Pacquiao.

Pacquiao and his entourage traveled all the way from Dubai, the financial capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where they stayed for about a week before flying to Athens, Greece last Monday for another one week vacation.

Pacquiao took part in RahmaYAS, a three-kilometer charity walk & cycle around Yas Marina Circuit here, to attract volunteers and help raise AED200,000 for the Cancer Patient Care Society.

The event was held to raise awareness for Rahma, a charitable service spearheaded by CPCS to provide practical and psychological support for people diagnosed with cancer.

Rahma, the Arabic word for mercy, was launched last month by the CPCS.

Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, chairman of the board of directors of CPCS and an intellectual and strategic expert of the United Arab Emirates, hailed Pacquiao for coming over to support their cause.

?Manny Pacquiao?s life is a big inspiration for many of us. His presence at the Yas Marina Circuit was a big boost for the event and helped raise awareness for our charity organization,? Al-Suwaidi told reporters.

Pacquiao expressed profound gratitude for the warm welcome given by a huge Filipino fans present during the RahmaYAS.

He also thanked his hosts both in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for their hospitality and generosity.

?I have found good friends here in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. They treated us with utmost hospitality. I?m looking forward to spending a private vacation here with my family during the Christmas season,? Pacquiao said.

From Greece, Pacquiao and his entourage will proceed to Israel before flying back home tentatively on November 23.
