
28th WBO Convention Opens

ORLANDO, FL ? The 28th WBO Convention formally opened here Monday night at the sprawling Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Hotel with a welcome cocktail party attended by WBO officials, boxers, promoters, managers, media and other dignitaries coming from different corners of the world who renewed acquaintances before everyone buckle down to serious business starting Tuesday morning.
WBO president Francisco 'Paco' Valcarcel takes center stage Tuesday morning with his President's report after the opening ceremony and the approval of previous proceedings. It will then followed by the Treasurer's report, the Championship Committee report and Grievance Committee report to wrap up the morning proceedings. The General Assembly ? Executive Committee will take the afternoon session and will have the Regional Vice Presidents reports from different regions including North America, Latino, Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and China and WBO international.
Wednesday will have the referees and judges seminars and on Thursday the General Assembly ? Executive Committee will close its activities followed the highly anticipated Championship and Ratings Committee discussions capped by the popular Gala dinner in the evening.
The Philippines is well represented in this event with Philippine Games and Amusement Board (GAB) chairman Ramon Guanzon and his two commissioners Aquil Tamano and Fritz Gaston attending. Judges Salven Lagumbay and Edward Ligas as well as Referee Danrex Tapdasan are in town as well ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, Filipino long time world champion Donnie Nietes and trainer Edito Villamor. Philboxing's Dong Secuya and Tsai Chen-Te, representing Philboxing China, were also aboard from the media side.
