ALA Boy Czar Amonsot arrived in Las Vegas yesterday ready for the major task at hand and the back-breaking training that comes with it as he prepares for his first world title challenge on July 21 against interim WBO lightweight champion Michael Katsidis at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
Amonsot versus Katsidis will serve as one of the chief supports to the huge Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright showdown dubbed 'Coming to Fight' by promoter Golden Boy Promotions.
The other chief undercard pits Japan-based Venezuelan Jorge Linares going up against Oscar Larios for the WBC featherweight interim title.
Amonsot landed yesterday at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas accompanied by trainer Edito Villamor.
The duo were picked up at the airport by Chris Aldeguer and wife, while Edward Martin, son of Las Vegas-based trainer/cutman Tony Martin also met the fighter at the airport.
"Amonsot is scheduled to do his morning roadwork tomorrow here in Vegas, and then we will pick up our service vehicle and drive to Los Angeles after the workout," reported Villamor in a long-distance interview after touching down at the McCarran Airport.
Amonsot, who holds the WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title, will then continue his training at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles under the watchful eyes of Villamor.
Amonsot is expected to break camp around a week before the fight, and head back to Las Vegas with his manager Michael Aldeguer, Villamor, Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani, and other members of his team.
Amonsot is expected to be in prime shape for the fight, as he was training for a July 7 title defense before the offer to challenge Katsidis was put on the table.
Before flying to the US, Amonsot had been training at the famed ALA Gym, and sparred against the likes of OPBF lightweight champ Randy Suico, WBF welter king Dondon Sultan and RP junior welter champ Mark Jason Melligen.
