WBO Asia-Pacific lightweight king Czar Amonsot is slated to fly to the US on Tuesday with trainer Edito Villamor to continue his training at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym.
The ALA Boy Amonsot is aching to challenge WBO interim lightweight king Michael Katsidis on July 21 underneath the Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright superbout.
Amonsot and Villamor will take the Cebu-Manila-Las Vegas route, and will take the almost six-hour drive to the City of Angels.
"We are confident of Czar's conditioning going into this fight, as he was supposed to defend his regional crown on July 7, and has been training," said top Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani, who along with ALA manager Michael Aldeguer is expected to rendesvouz with Amonsot and Villamor days before the fight.
Katsidis, the unbeaten Australian who was supposed to fight Joan Guzman last May 26 before Guzman claimed injury while others thought he simply chickened out, brings into the fight an extraordinary reputation as a boxer who fights with breath-taking pace and power.
Amonsot, however, is expected to give Katsidis all he can handle, and Filipino fans are anticipating a classic fight.
