GENERAL SANTOS CITY ? World boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao turned-over on Thursday afternoon 53 duplex housing units with a total cost of about P10 million to 106 homeless beneficiaries in Tango village, Glan town, Sarangani.

The construction started on June 16 and in just a matter of more than two months, the contractor managed to finish the project.

Pacquiao said this is just an expansion of his original project, the ?Pacman Village,? which was established in Tango in 2012.

The original 94 beneficiaries were poor residents who primarily depend on farming, fishing and small retail business to make ends meet.

One hundred additional housing units were built in a 2.8-hectare lot in the aftermath of Typhoon Pablo to resettle residents displaced by storm surge and flash floods.

The 194 existing housing units were constructed by Pacquiao in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and the local government of
Glan.

The total cost of building the latest 53 housing units, however, was all shouldered by Pacquiao.

?Tango is close to my heart because my family lived here before. In fact, our youngest brother Rogelio was born right in this village,? Pacquiao revealed.

The Pinoy boxing legend pledged to build a covered court in an open space where a multipurpose center, a community park and a concrete stage are currently built.

?You need a covered court here so that your community activities will not be disrupted even during heavy rains,? he said.

Glan Mayor Victor James Yap promised to provide the streetlights as counter-part of the local government.

?Congressman Manny Pacquiao provided the land and homes for poor residents of my municipality, we will provide the lightings as counter-part,? Yap said.

Prior to the awarding, beneficiaries were made to sign a contract not to sell the house and lot otherwise they forfeit their right over the property.

?This is to make sure that they will not become homeless again,? the Pinoy boxer-lawmaker stressed.

Twenty four-year old Jessa Mantalaba, a mother to two children and one of the beneficiaries, could hardly contain her joy.

?For a long time, we kept transferring from one place to another. We have no permanent home. We were always restless and faced with uncertainties. Now, we have peace of mind. No word can aptly describe how grateful we are to Congressman Manny Pacquiao. Truly, God is using him to help other people,? Mantalaba said.

HOME FOR THE HOMELESS: There's no end to Cong. Manny Pacquiao's
generosity. These newly-completed 53 duplex housing units with a total cost of about P10 million were funded out of Pacquiao's own pocket.
