AS though their countrymen had specifically placed an order for twin knockouts, the Pagara brothers, Albert and Jason, have vowed a full serving of the glorious boxing dish on Friday.
A couple of neat victories on points should be good enough.
But don? t tell that to the fighting Pagaras, who are in their first foreign assignments.
**
The event is Duel in Dubai 2, presented by ALA Promotions whose patriarch, the revered Cebu sportsman Tony Aldeguer, has left ahead for Dubai to make sure it would be a spectacular event.
Said a press release: ?IBF Intercontinental super bantamweight champion Prince Albert Pagara and elder brother light welterweight Jason will clash with two Mexican warriors but have indicated they are not awed by the reputation of their opponents.?
The first edition, Duel in Dubai 1, was a resounding success, lapped up by overseas Filipino workers, who thrilled no end to the heroics of Pinoy fighters from the famed ALA Stable.
**
With the overwhelming demand for tickets to Friday?s event, Aldeguer said they have decided to double the seating capacity for Duel in Dubai 2.
There seems no stopping ALA Promotions from presenting a first-class thriller.
The Pagaras tote terrific records: Albert, 23-0, 16 KOs; Jason, 35-2, 22 KOs.
**
There?s also the danger of the Pagaras coming in too good and smart for their opponents.
The Pagaras will be fighting Mexicans who own a total of eleven defeats (7-4) between themselves.
Jesus Rios, who fights Albert Pagara is 31-7, while Ramon Alcaraz is 15-4.
It was not clear if any of those defeats by the Mexicans came via knockout.
**
One of the Pagaras, without trying to be cocky, had been overheard as saying he hopes the knockout doesn?t come early in the first round.
It?s a remote possibility, but let?s hope they don?t end up serving a tasteless KO dish, like the one delivered by Nonito Donaire in Macau last month.
In that aweful mismatch, Anthony Souttel, described as a French champion, proved a total anomaly who failed to land a single punch, while going down after a nudge on his nervous belly before taking an open KO blow to the head in the second round.
?Nonito?s two foes after his shattering, shameful fall in the hands of Jamaican Nicholas Walters were certified tahu vendors,? wrote international boxing correspondent Anthony Andales from South Carolina.
The Pagaras will be needing shining performances against worthy foes in order to prop themselves up for a promised outing in ALA Promotions inaugural card in the United States scheduled next October.
