MAKATI ? ?A real champion is gracious both in his words and conduct. Someone who is a champion not just in his chosen field of endeavor but even in his own home and private life.?
This was the reaction of world eight-division boxing champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao on Floyd Mayweather?s recent instagram post showing him slapping a dummy while taunting the Filipino ring icon?s right shoulder injury.
Pacquiao failed to sustain his attack versus Mayweather after the Pinoy boxer?s right shoulder rotator cup injury recurred in the fourth round of their mega-buck fight last May 2 in Las Vegas.
?We should understand Floyd Mayweather Jr. because of his family background. He hailed from a family of ex-convicts and he himself is an ex-convict. We could not blame him because his action just showed the kind of family upbringing he had,? Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao added that what was shown on Mayweather instagram post was not a character of a real champion and educated person.
?It only reminds me of what he did to his ex-wife. I hope he would find time to reflect on his life and repent for the sins he committed in the past,? Pacquiao said.
Despite what Mayweather did, the Fighter of the Decade claimed he?s not harboring rancor vis-?-vis the undefeated American fighter.
?I still respect him as God?s creation and I won?t resort to such kind of a low blow just to get his attention,? the Pinoy boxing hero said.
According to him, what he feels towards Mayweather is nothing but pity.
?He?s just like a lost soul still groping in the dark. I pray that may God touch his heart so he will discern the real meaning of love and life,? Pacquiao said.
