Mandatory challenger Florante Condes is well within schedule as he nears the 100-round mark in his preparation for the titular challenge on IBF minimumweight kingpin Muhammad Rachman on June 16 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Aljoe Jaro, who manages Condes along with Las Vegas-based Dante Ortiz, revealed that the dynamite-fisted fighter has already logged a total of 76 rounds in sparring and should have about 120 when he takes on Rachman next month.
The IBF, through championship chairman Lindsey Tucker, has already sanctioned the bout to take place in Indonesia.
"Florante has been sparring at my gym against Sonny Boy Jaro, Danilo Lerio and Roberto Lerio. He did twelve rounds yesterday against the three fighters four rounds each," said Jaro, who will be accompanying Condes to Jakarta next month.
Las Vegas-based Puerto Rican Ortiz, who co-manages Condes, informed this writer in a recent interview in Las Vegas that he will be flying to Indonesia to be at ringside for the Condes-Rachman showdown. Ortiz will be accompanied in the trip by his business partner and former WBA world light welterweight king Morris East, who is also based in Las Vegas.
Ortiz said that he knows Condes has a good chance against the veteran Rachman, especially if Condes can unload on the champion's kisser.
"Florante needs to move a lot in this fight, and go to the body, go to the body. We known Rachman moves a lot, so we have got to stop that," said Ortiz.
