MAYOL ASKS GAB TO NULLIFY CONTRACT WITH JAPANESE

One-time world challenger and former OPBF minimumweight champion Rodel Mayol has sought the assistance of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to nullify his contract with his estranged Japanese manager Yasuo "Machang" Matsuoka, alledging that
Matsuoka is no longer capable of taking care of his career as well as his needs as a boxer.
"This is regarding my boxing career and the case with my boxing manager, Yasou Matsuoka. I wanted to break my contract with him because he can no longer take care of me as a world ranked boxer and he can no longer attend to my needs as a boxer," said Mayol in an e-mail to The Freeman.
In his letter of complaint to GAB chairman Eric Buhain dated May 2, 2007, a copy of which was furnished by Mayol to The Freeman, the Cebuano power-puncher cited several grounds that he felt would merit the revocation of his contract with Matsuoka.
Mayol said that of all his fights under the management of Matsuoka, he had not signed any contract particularly in his fights in Cancun, Mexico (December 2005, purse:US$5,000) and in Tokyo, Japan twice (May 6, 2006, purse:US$20,000 and September 18, 2006, purse:US$5,000).
Mayol said he went to Cebu to ask for the contract of the above-mentioned fights, but GAB-Cebu official Lando Mendoza said they don't have a copy of the contracts. He also forwarded his request to the GAB Headquarters in Manila where he was referred to boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz but until now he got no formal reply.
Mayol further stated that he heard from a reliable source in Japan that his championship purse was considerably higher than what was given to him. In his last fight, he got only US$3,000 from his original purse of US$5,000.
In addition, Mayol said he learned from a source in Japan that Mr. Matsouka had an ex-deal with one of the "food supplement" companies in Japan named "MANAN's". Mayol said he and fellow Cebuano boxer Malcolm Tu?acao, who is also managed by Matsuoka, will advertise their products in exchange for Php 50,000 worth of allowance for both of them per month.
"Neither was this mentioned to me nor received the said amount," said Mayol.
Mayol said he clearly see the situation that Matsuoka is in deep financial difficulty after they were sent out from Tsukuba Hotel in Tokyo because Matsuoka was not able to pay the bills.
Under these predicaments, Mayol said he felt that Matsuoka can no longer take care of him as a world-ranked fighter.
"I am hoping for a due process and a fair judgment on this case. You can notify my wife, Mrs. Lira M. Mayol, for any appearances or hearing. I will be represented by my lawyer for I am out of the country seeking for better opportunities and fights to pursue my goal of being a World Champion," said Mayol in his letter to Buhain.
Mayol is reportedly in the United States looking for greener pastures under the guidance of his former manager Terry Lee Carter, with whom he is now being reunited.
The 25-year-old Mayol currently holds a 23-1 win-loss record with 18 KOs. But he has not fought since scoring a spectacular first round knockout of Japanese Masatsugu Okada on September 18 last year at the Pacifico Arena in Yokohama, Japan.
