CAZARES A MARKED MAN IN TODAY'S DEFENSE

LAS VEGAS--When Mexican Hugo Cazares defends his WBO light-flyweight crown today against Wilfredo Perez, expect a handful of Filipino fans and boxing personalities to be at the Grand Ballroom of MGM Grand's Conference Center to do some scouting.

Top Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani revealed that he will personally scout Cazares when he defends his title, as the Mexican might be tapped next to defend his title against a Filipino fighter on the 'Boxing World Cup' this September.

Cazares (24-3-1, 18 KO's) is managed by Manuel Montiel Sr, the father of WBO superfly champ Fernando Montiel, who has expressed interest in flying back to the country for a rematch with Z Gorres.

Montiel's camp has indicated that due to the good Filipino hospitality they received while in Cebu for the Gorres fight, they will not hesitate to visit once again for yet another fight.

"I will take a look at Cazares. Who knows, he might defend against one of my boys," said Gello-ani, who is currently firming up the Philippines versus Mexico event for the 'World Cup.'

Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De la Hoya had earlier said that he will fly to the Philippines to help Gello-ani promote the event.

Perez, however, might pose a big problem for Cazares if only for his outstanding record of 23 wins, 1 loss, 3 draws with 16 KO's.
