PACQUIAO'S LEG CRAMPS ARE GONE

LOS ANGELES, Cal. ? The leg cramps that the media reported as hampering eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao?s build up program for his big fight with undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr. is completely gone.

?Yeah, I know the media had feasted on this perceived serious injury on Manny?s calf, but I?m sorry to inform your misinformed colleagues that it?s completely healed and Manny had had a hell of a day performing his agility test this morning at UCLA (University of California-Los Angeles) track oval,? Pacquiao?s conditioning coach Justin Fortune told this writer Wednesday.

?We?ve just turned a page in Manny?s training regimen and next week we will be going into the next page of the program,? Fortune said. ?Meaning Manny had just passed the toughest test in his conditioning phase of preparations and he?s ready to proceed to the lighter and easier routine.?

?Manny knows that and he?s very happy. He showed it when he, as usual gave all?out in his exercises, including the 32-kilometer sprint around the oval and another fast-phase climb from the bottom of the bleacher to the top,? he said.

Fortune said Pacquiao will back running the hills starting Monday at a twice-a-week frequency in place of the punishing and energy-sapping 82-step climb sideways at the UCLA track stadium bleachers.

?We?ll still be visiting UCLA but only once a week every Wednesday,? Fortune disclosed. ?Monday and Friday, we?re back at Griffith Hills. Manny loves to run there and we will give him that,? he said in reference to the rolling mountain stretches at the Griffith Park here.

Fortune admitted his pupil sometimes struggled, but ?that?s natural or a man in a hurry to finish a job like Manny?s attempt put to himself in competitive form as soon as he wishes. But you can?t do that that way. He?s very anxious and I like that as a sign that he?s really determined and dedicated to reach his target,? he reasoned out.

?The UCLA routine, you see, is for Manny to regain his full speed as before. He?s almost got it,? Fortune assessed. ?But we want him to explode, too. So we still need to recover his mountain-climbing skills.?

?Overall, I would say that we?re in a very ideal situation now. What we still lack, we?ll get it the next two weeks,? Fortune said.

Chief trainer Freddie Roach nodded in approval, noting the tireless manner the World Boxing Organization welterweight belt-owner did the mitts with him for 12 rounds later in the day.

?I wanted him to only work 10 rounds because the 12-round routine is still scheduled next week, but he insisted on 12 rounds so I gave him that,? Roach said with a chuckle. ?No man with calf injury as people say can do what he?s been doing the past weeks or two.?

Yesterday (Tuesday), Roach continued, ?I wanted him to spar just for eight rounds, but he asked an addition of two rounds more. ?I told him, okay let?s split, I?ll give you another round and that?s it.?

The seven-time trainer of the year observed that his ward is very energetic in this camp and very strong. ?Very fast, too. He?s, in fact, getting better and better every day, and we have to sometimes apply the brakes on him or else he?ll peak early and, naturally, we don?t wasn?t that to happen. That?ll be bad.?
