All set for ALA-Cobra boxing tonight in Murcia

MURCIA, Negros Occidental ? Boxing remains the greatest hope of young Filipino pugs to change their lives and have a better future for their families.

This is the common answer from the fighters in yesterday?s ALA-Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing press conference at the town?s hall.

Meanwhile, ALA?s Leilani Perpetua said that this Cobra Boxing has been the venue not only to discover potential boxing champions but also served as an avenue for those who wished to achieve their dreams through this sports.

Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, on his part, stressed that with this tournament, he sees more champions rising from different provinces.

?Of all the sports that we Filipinos loved, only in boxing that I think we have the real chance to be victorious. With Manny Pacquiao and Donnie Nietes making history for Philippine boxing, they are among the living inspirations for the next generation,? he added.

Fighting in tonight?s main card is Jonas ?Zorro? Sultan of Zamboanga del Norte going up against Jerson ?Smooth Operator? Mancio of Misamis Oriental in a 10-round clash at 115 lbs.

Sultan (6-2, 4KOs), who booked 115 lbs. during the weigh in, said that he?s ready for the fight. ?Despite being a lesser experienced fighter, I know that I?ve prepared well for this fight,? he stressed.

Meanwhile, Mancio (18-5-3, 9KOs), who also registered 115 lbs., is confident to rule the fight. ?I know I have the advantage with my experience,? he stressed.

Fighting for the undercard at 8-round battle in the 126 lbs. are Masbate City?s pride Geo ?Santino? Santisima and Boyce ?Astro Boy? Sultan of Zamboanga del Norte, who weighed identical 127.5 lbs.

Also seeing action in the supporting bouts are Negrense prospects Jefcon ?Ringo? Concerman of Talisay City ? who weighed 119 lbs. facing Raul ?Vulcan? Yu of Butuan City ? who registered 117 lbs. in a 6-round face-off at 118 lbs.

Talisay?s Kenneth ?Dragon?Neron (118.5 lbs.) taking Tagbilaran City ?s Virgel ?Valiente? Vitor (119.5 lbs.) ? 4 rounds at 118 lbs.; and Joepher?Joker? Montano of Bago City taking Paul Varona of Pulupandan, who weighed 129 and 127 lbs., respectively ? also in the 4-round clash at 128lbs.

Hometown fighters Ernesto Alera, meanwhile, registered 103 lbs. while his opponent Jonnel Burlado of Lanao del Norte weighed 127 lbs. Both fighters will be seeing action in a 4-round at 105 lbs.

Elmer Libo-on, also of Murcia, weighed 112 lbs. as Richard Lomugdang of Bacolod City will face each other in a 4-round at 112 lbs.

Laguna?s Pete ?Peter Pan? Apolinar, on the other hand, takes Jun Ryan Quimbo of Cebu City for a 6-round in the 122 lbs.

This event, presented by ALA Promotions, aimed to discover the future Filipino boxing champions from the provinces.

This boxing presentation is sanctioned by the Games and Amusement Board headed by Chairman MonjuGuanzon and Bacolod-OIC Donna Mae Martir.

Also in Murcia, Donnie ?Ahas?Nietes, the longest Filipino world champion, will be lead today?s inauguration of the ?Donnie Nietes ALA Boxing Gym?at 3PM.
