OSAKA, JAPAN--OPBF bantam champion Rolly (Lunas) Matsushita is set to defend his regional title on August 12 against Japanese prospect Masayuki Mitani at the City Sogo Gym in Takasago, Hyogo, Japan.
The Filipino Matsushita, a humble fighter who idolizes superstar Manny Pacquiao, is coming off a successful initial defense of the title over Thai Samingnum Wor Wiwatananon last April 1 in Ishikawa.
Mitani is anticipated to give Lunas all he can handle, boasting of a 20-1, 10 KO`s record, and standing at a tall 5`7 1/2 for a bantamweight fighter.
Mitani is described as a tremendous jabber with a good work rate, and stands a fair chance of unseating the vastly-improved Matsushita.
Matsushita, carrying the name of his major Japan sponsor, is now based and training in Japan, and has shown tremendous improvement compared to his stint with Filipino managers.
Credit should be given to his Japanese manager Naoyuki Kashimi, for his excellent job in bringing back the old, ferocious Lunas.
