Even its closest pursuer proved no matched to rampaging Adamson University which merely went into the motion of completing a sweep of the first of the two-round elimination with another routine, 11-1 shellacking of La Salle Saturday in the UAAP Softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Like in their previous five wins, the Lady Falcons made short work of the Lady Archers inpicking up their historic 54th consecutive victories, the most by any team in any part of the universe, in a four-year span via a five-inning decision before an almost empty stand.

Ateneo, meanwhile, continued its separate bid for its own place in history in the varsity league?s baseball tournament with a 9-4
overcoming of National University Sunday, also at the seven-decade old ballpark.

The Blue Eagles, who had already gifted the Hail Mary institution with its first baseball diadem in 2013, or 37 years following its admission to UAAP in 1978, extended its unbeaten record to six in the hope of fulfilling a three peat.

Lefty Bacolodnon Annalie Benjamin had another field day in checking the Arches? batters withfive hits in a four-inning start before yielding the mound to baby Jane Raro, who complemented Adamson?s starter with a lone connection while spanning out the other three that crossed her path.

Benjamin, likewise, came swinging on the other side of the field going two-of-three at bat and driving in three runs, while reaching home twice.

Coach Ana Santiago?s girls had a total 12 connections of hapless Marivic Munoz with right fielder Gelyn Lamata matching Benjamin?s three RBIs in her similar two-of-three trips at the plate.

Left fielder Krisna Paguican guided two of her teammates cross the plate besides belting out a solo round-tripper highlighting the Lady Falcons? three-run rampage each at the topof the second, third and fourth frames and a paIr in the fifth.

The Lady Archers dropped to 4-2 win-loss slate but still remained second behind Adamson?s clean 6-0.

Victories by University of the Philippines over National U, 10-3, and Santo Tomas over University of the East, 3-0, triggered a three-way logjam for third up to places among the Lady Warriors, the Lady Maroons and the Tigresses.

Going into the second round of elims, UE, UP and UST tote similar 3-3 even records. Last year?s runner up National University and Ateneo are in the sixth and positions, respectively.
