The World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific, through its chairman Leon Panoncillo, has informed that it is trying to come up with timely measures to avoid future ring accidents as what happened recently to Filipino boxer Lito Sisnorio in Thailand.
"We are very concerned especially when the issue of injuries and ring deaths are concerned. We will always be on a lookout for ways and means to avoid them, and to safeguard the lives of our fighters," Panoncillo said.
Although the WBO Asia-Pacific, according to Panoncillo, has never encountered such accidents in any of its past events, it will continue to be vigilant for the sake of the sport.
According to the WBO Vice-President, there is now a move on its Youth arm for those fighters fighting in the lightweight category and up, to use 10-oz gloves, "as these bigger boys hit so hard and they need better protection from the blows."
Panoncillo added that they will continue to be vigilant and come up with possible steps at avoiding these ring tragedies for the benefit of the sport.
