MACAO ? World eight-division boxing champion and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao just laughed off the bold forecast made by Chris Algieri camp that ?a new champion and a new star? would emerge after the fight on Sunday.
Algieri?s camp bragged during a press conference here Wednesday evening that the undefeated American challenger would win via a 10th round stoppage against Pacquiao on Sunday when they tangle for the latter?s World Boxing Organization (WBO) crown.
Pacquiao, however, dismissed the bravado of the opposite camp saying ?I?ve trained hard and I?m so inspired and determined to win this fight. I?m gonna prove to the world my intensity and aggressiveness in the ring is still there.?
The reigning WBO title holder then turned biblical in proving that his self-confidence and hunger for victory hasn?t diminished a bit despite his age.
The Filipino ring icon said, ?My self-confidence is high because God is with me. The Bible says, if God is with you who can be against you??
With God, the Filipino boxing legend said, all things are possible.
In an interview, the boxer-lawmaker said this is not the first time that he?s fighting a taller and bigger opponent.
?I have fought much stronger and highly-skilled fighters like Oscar Dela Hoya and Antonio Margarito. It?s easy to hit a bigger and slower opponent,? the Pinoy ring hero said.
The Fighter of the Decade claimed he?s getting inspiration and drawing strength from the Bible, especially every time he came across the story of David and Goliath.
?That was a classic example of what I said that with God nothing is impossible. Nobody thought that a little boy armed with a mere slingshot will defeat a behemoth brandishing a double-edged sword,? he said.
He added he?s a man of action and he would rather let his blazing fists do the talking atop the ring on Sunday than engage Algieri, a fighter described by coach Freddie Roach as a boy whose punching power can hardly break an egg, in a senseless war of words.
