MACAU, China ? His rise from humble beginnings, his resiliency and fighting spirit and untainted belief in God are the attributes Manny Pacquiao possesses that made him what he is now.
?Manny has won eight world titles in as many weight divisions, an accomplishment no human being has done in the history of boxing. He once was proclaimed the richest professional athlete in the entire universe, and risen from the grave of being knocked out thrice, So, what else he cannot do?? Pacquiao?s wife, Sarangani Vice Gov. Jinkee
said while waiting for her and Team Pacquiao?s chartered flight from General Santos City to here Monday.
Jinkee was talking about the World Boxing Organization welterweight champion?s chances to defend his 140-pound diadem against undefeated American challenger Chris Algieri this coming Sunday at the Cotai Arenas in the Venetian Hotel Resort Sunday here.
?Only two years ago, Manny lost twice in-a-row, including a devastating sixth round knockout that everybody thought was the end of his boxing career,? Sarangani?s second highest official reminisced. ?And yet, he was able to comeback and avenged his first defeat in 2012 besides winning one more fight early this year.?
I believe he can also survive this coming test,? Jinkee, who, along with youngest son, Baby Israel, is here to lend moral support to her husband, quipped.
And on Thursday (today) darating din ang iba na naming mga anak, she said in reference to Michael, Emmanuel (Jimwell), Princess and Queennie, who all weren?t able to join Monday?s trip because of their studies.
?Manny kasi has always wanted that the entire family watch all his fights, if possible. Kaya nga ang buo naming pamilya, as in buong pamilya ay pupunta sa Macau to watch his fight,? she said. Reason why Pacquiao?s estranged parents ? Aleng Dionisia and ex-husband Rosalio and two of their six children, Isidra and Bobby, are also here.
Aleng Dionisia, also called Mommy D, exclaimed.
Mommy D and his son had a brief falling out after Pacquiao abandoned his Catholic belief, but Aleng Dionisia swore that their differences have long been forgotten.
?Tapos na yun at kanya-kanya na kami ng paniniwala,? she once told this writer in separate inter4view. ?Tutal pareho naman kaming naniniwala sa Diyos.?
Asked if she and Mang Rosalio will again sit side-by-side at the ringside as they had been in their son?s previous fights, Mommy D, who had been earlier reported to have a new love retorted with a side grin: Huwag mo nang itanong ?yan.?
